A very young Assistant Manager - 1105

Created by Sue 3 years ago

Tony had the dubious honour of being the very young, and handsome, Assistant Manager of what Peter and Joyce have already noted was the best Boots branch ever - after they got to grips with it!

Tony was the loveliest of men even back then in the early ‘80s and took to managing the supervisory team of what I think these days might be called “strong women” with good humour and kindness. I’m afraid he was sometimes teased mercilessly but never showed any sign of irritation as he learnt how to manage without actually appearing to! There are stories probably best left untold about after work evenings in The Beehive and get togethers involving large pans of Scouse!

The years passed, many of us moved on and Tony became a succesful businessman and we often chatted in his pharmacy on Banks Road, West Kirby, when I returned home to visit friends snd family having emigrated south of Watford; his trademark grin and floppy hair never changed, a true Hugh Grant lookalike!

Everyone was so pleased to see Tony at the reunion in Liverpool a few years ago, he looked and behaved no differently despite the many years since we had all been together.

I had such fun working with Tony, I learnt my trade with him, laughed with him - alot,  danced at his wedding, admired his success and I’m so sorry we won’t meet again on this side.

With fond memories and condolences,
